ST. LOUIS – It may have seemed like a social norm to swim or play in the water at Kerth Fountain in Forest Park, but that was never meant to be its intended use, according to Forest Park Forever.

Forest Park Forever, a non-profit conservancy in partnership with the City of St. Louis, announced on Facebook Tuesday that there should be no swimming or playing in Kerth Fountain.

“The water coming out of the fountain is like water from any other fountain in the city, but the fountain pool is not treated for full-body contact the way a public swimming pool would be,” the post said.

Instead of swimming or playing in the water at Kerth Fountain, the post mentioned places where water play is acceptable.

Those options include the World’s Fair Pavilion on the east side of the Nature Playscape and the Visitor Center on the west side of the Wonderland Playground.
