WENTZVILLE, Mo. – The number 13 carries the stigma of an omen of bad luck or misfortune. However, 13 turned out to be a blessing for a Missouri scratchers player in Wentzville.

The winner bought his 500X scratchers ticket at the Dierbergs on Wentzville Parkway. He said he gets a “bigger kick out of playing that game!”

“It was the strangest thing. It was one lousy number. Number 13,” the winner said. “So one number matched, 13, but I didn’t scratch the prize. When I saw it was $50,000, it just didn’t register. ‘What in the dickens?’ I didn’t believe it.’”

500X is a $50 scratchers game with more than $135.4 million still available in unclaimed prizes, including a top prize of $5 million, two $1 million prizes, and 28 additional $50,000 prizes. Players win by matching their numbers to any of the winning numbers. They then multiply that prize by scratching their ticket to reveal a 5X, 10X, 20X, 100X, 250X, or 500X symbol.
