ST. LOUIS – Memorial Day weekend in St. Louis brings with it a variety of activities. This year, the options include taking part in a weekend series of baseball involving the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs at Busch Stadium.

Before Friday night’s game, youth baseball teams were having fun in the plaza area around Ballpark Village, as the tournaments are attracting visitors this holiday weekend.

“We’re here for my son to play in the Perfect Game tournament in Chesterfield, Missouri,” Meagan Gentry, Arkansas resident, said.

Tina Berry traveled to St. Louis from Louisville, Ky., to see her grandson play in a tournament.

“We came from a lot of rain, so if it rains, we’re used to it,” she said.

The weekend also marks the beginning of the summer season for Grant’s Farm.

“Seven days a week begins today and lasts throughout the summer,” Craig Thomas, Grant’s Farm curator of animals, said. “We also have Summer Nights on Friday and Saturday nights with a lot of fun things to do.”

The weather cooperated enough on Friday for Grant’s Farm goats to make an appearance at Ballpark Village. They helped mark the 70th anniversary of Grant’s Farm.

Another Memorial Day weekend tradition is the St. Louis County Greek Festival at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church on Des Peres Road.

Music, folk dancing, church tours and authentic Greek cuisine are all part of the festival. Organizers are prepared for the possibility of bad weather.

“We stay open, rain or shine,” Greg Simos, festival chairman, said.
