NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — Gov. JB Pritzker joined Rivian Founder & CEO, RJ Scaringe for an announcement that will impact Normal’s manufacturing facility on Thursday.
Scaringe announced that Rivian received an $827 million incentive package from the state to support its expansion of the Rivian plant to speed up the production of the R2.
“We are thrilled to deliver on this investment for you and your colleges,” Scaringe said.
Pritzker announced that it was part of a $1.5 Billion investment for expansions at the Rivian Facility that will add more than 550 additional jobs for the People of Normal and the surrounding areas.
“Rivian had other options, but it chose to double down right here in Normal, Ill., because of our well-trained and excellent workforce, our nationally renowned infrastructure, and our robust connection to other suppliers,” Pritzker said.
The investment will also create another manufacturing training academy, a dual credit apprenticeship program for high school students and future employer training.
