ST. LOUIS – A large group of anti-war protestors went through Saint Louis University’s campus and closed N. Grand Boulevard Wednesday evening, vocalizing their desire for a ceasefire and for the school to part ways with Boeing.
There was an understanding between the university, protestors, and police that law enforcement wouldn’t intervene as long as it stayed peaceful.
Organizers of the demonstration say the university hasn’t done enough to support its Palestinian students.
“The university hasn’t given us much dialogue besides a neutral stance, so that is why we are here today,” Nadia Abusoud, SLU student activist, said. “We are trying to get them to side with us and call for a ceasefire against innocent people in Gaza and in Palestine.”
Sen. Josh Hawley weighed in before the protest, saying it’s unacceptable for Jewish students to feel unsafe on campus.
“There’s no right—no first amendment right—whatsoever to threaten the life, or the safety, or the property of either the public at these universities or Jewish students,” Hawley said. “Let’s speak with some moral clarity. Jewish Americans should be safe on our campuses. This should not be hard.”
A spokesperson for the university told FOX 2 that there was no further comment on the demand for the school to divest from Boeing.
