ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis man avoided a scheduled murder trial and reached a plea agreement with city prosecutors on Wednesday.

Turner T. Williams, 22, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of Anthony Lane.

The shooting happened on the afternoon of Oct. 5, 2021, in the 4300 block of Warne Avenue, located in the city’s Fairground neighborhood.

Officers arrived at the scene and found Lane, 52, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. A second victim, who was unharmed, told police that he and Lane were in an alley when Williams fired shots and fled.

Williams was arrested in November 2021 and initially charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and two counts of armed criminal action.

A St. Louis Circuit Court judge sentenced Williams to seven years in state prison.
