ST. LOUIS – Magician Justin Willman owes his career to a painful childhood experience.

The St. Louis native broke both of his arms at 12 years old while trying to ride a bicycle with rollerblades. Willman’s orthopedic surgeon recommended the boy learn card tricks as a way to rebuild strength and dexterity in both hands.

Willman, who had a childhood fascination with magic, excelled at the doctor’s unique approach to physical therapy. By age 14, he was performing in front of small audiences.

After graduating from Ladue Horton Watkins High School and later Emerson College, Willman moved to Los Angeles to pursue magic.

Over the years, Willman served as host for “Cupcake Wars” and “Last Cake Standing” on the Food Network, the “Win, Lose, or Draw” revival on Disney Channel, and even performed at the White House in 2011, all while maintaining a touring career.

Willman created and starred in the Netflix show “Magic for Humans.” The show aired for three seasons from 2018-2020. As of 2021, he became host of “Baking Impossible,” a cooking competition show.

In a recent visit to “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Willman announced he’ll be hosting a new magic show, “The Magic Prank Show with Justin Willman.”

Willman will return home later this summer, performing magic at The Factory on September 7.
