ST. LOUIS –Police are investigating two separate shootings that occurred within hours of each other, causing concern due to the ages of the victims involved—an elderly man and a teenage boy. Both shootings are being treated as first-degree assaults. Fortunately, both victims are expected to survive their injuries.
The first incident took place just after 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhood at Prairie and North Market. An 82-year-old man was found outside with a gunshot wound to his chest. Police were called to the scene following reports of shots fired. The elderly man was conscious and breathing when taken to the hospital and is now reported to be in stable condition.
Earlier in the day, a 16-year-old boy was shot multiple times in North St. Louis, specifically at 23rd and Angelica in the Hyde Park neighborhood, around 2:40 p.m. According to police, a dark-colored sedan approached the teenager, and shots were fired from the vehicle in an attempted robbery. The teen was hit multiple times and rushed to the hospital, where he is also in stable condition. It remains unclear whether the robbers succeeded in taking anything from the teen.
St. Louis police are urging anyone with information on either of these shootings to come forward to assist in the investigation.
