ST. LOUIS – A solar eclipse will streak across the United States on Monday and many people have special glasses to view the event. The Illinois Department of Public Health issued a warning to people who may have purchased some of the glasses. They say certain brands were recalled because they failed to meet safety standards.
The eclipse glasses were sold on Amazon as “Biniki Solar Eclipse Glasses AAS Approved 2024 – CE & ISO Certified Safe Shades for Direct Sun Viewing (6 Packs).” They were available at several southern Illinois stores.

Steelville Marketplace, Steelville, IL

The recalled glasses are labeled as “EN ISO 12312-1:2022”; proper safety glasses should carry the ISO designation of 12312-2.
The department of health says that people who have the recalled glasses should not use them to view the eclipse. Poor vision protection may lead to serious eye damage.
