ST. LOUIS – The Royal Family released a major announcement Friday, shocking many around the world. Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, revealed she is undergoing chemotherapy for cancer.

The London Tea Room in the Downtown West neighborhood has been the social spot for major milestones of the Royal Family, from coronations to the Queen’s death. Many gathered Friday in light of learning the news of Princess Kate.

“It seems like the news is kind of starting to trickle through,” Thomas Riley, server, said. “People are just beginning to figure it out. But a lot of our customers, they are just beginning to figure it out and it is shocking.”

The news of Princess Kate comes not too long after King Charles announced earlier this year his cancer diagnosis. Both are currently seeking treatment.

“I’m really sorry to hear that,” Christine DeBold, customer, said. “I’ve always really admired and respected her. She’s just such a gracious and kind and lovely young woman.”

As Princess Kate was out of the public eye for nearly three months after undergoing “planned abdominal surgery,” social media began speculating on what was happening behind the scenes.

“Kind of relieved that people will finally know what’s going on with her and that the family wasn’t so private,” Martha Cunningham, customer, said. “They’re letting it come out. She’s beloved by many and is the future Queen!”

The princess was anticipated to return to normal duties after Easter, but that timeline has been pushed back as she consults with doctors and continues to recover.
