St. Louis mayor collaborates with National Medical Association on maternal health program

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones will take part in a health department program Thursday to discuss maternal and child health.

It will include representatives from the National Medical Association, a group representing African-American doctors.


Missing Missouri student: Officials focusing search efforts on Cheatham Dam

The discussion comes as Missouri reports one of the worst maternal mortality rates in the country. Missouri averages more than 60 pregnancy-related deaths each year.

Doctors say nearly 85 percent of those deaths were preventable with proper care.
