ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A 15-year-old is in custody for the stabbing death of a teenager near Jennings Junior High School.
According to Sgt. Tracy Panus, a St. Louis County Police Department spokeswoman, the 15-year-old was taken into custody in Jefferson City around 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The juvenile is being held at St. Louis County Family Court for second-degree murder. The court will determine if the juvenile will be tried as an adult.
The stabbing occurred just after 3 p.m. on March 12 in the 2400 block of Hord Avenue, a short distance from the school.
The victim, Justin Brooks, suffered a stab wound to his chest during an altercation. School resource officers responded to an emergency call and provided first aid to Brooks. The boy was rushed to the hospital but later died of his wounds. Brooks was 14.
The circumstances leading up to the stabbing remain unclear, but investigators said the incident does not seem to be random.
