Metro East arrest: Man wore body armor, had five loaded weapons during traffic stop

SWANSEA, Ill. – Authorities arrested a man who allegedly wore body armor and had five loaded weapons in his car during a traffic stop in the Metro East.

The St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged Joel M. De Jesus-Diaz, 44, with seven felonies in connection with the traffic stop, which happened on March 16 in Swansea, Illinois.

The Swansea Police Department reports that an officer pulled over De Jesus-Diaz and noticed six weapons in his backseat, including five that were loaded. The officer also found several loaded high-capacity magazines, loose ammunition, and a small amount of cannabis.

De Jesus-Diaz is being held at the St. Clair County Jail pending a detention hearing.
