VELDA CITY, Mo. — All officers with the Velda City police department resigned Thursday. The St. Louis County Police Department will respond to emergencies under a mutual aid agreement until a new solution is found.

Police say that Velda City and Flordell Hills are without local police services as of 2 p.m. Friday. They cite an agreement to merge with the Hillsdale Police Department that fell through.

The officer who posted the notice to the department’s Facebook page, says that the department only had three officers on the force.

“For the last several months, the department has only had three officers on the street. Not three officers per shift, three officers total for the department that wanted accountability and transparency failed to assume the accountability to properly staff a police department.

As a result, you had three officers working seven days a week with not so much as a thank you or even an acknowledgment of their work and dedication,” writes the officer.

St. Louis County Police tell FOX 2 that they are aware that the Velda City Police Department has disbanded. They will be responding to emergencies in the area.
