ST. LOUIS – A suspect is in custody after a woman was shot and killed inside a north St. Louis home. Investigators believe the victim knew her killer.

The shooting took place around 8 p.m. Wednesday in the 4600 block of Pope Avenue, located on the border of the Penrose and O’Fallon neighborhoods.

Police found the victim with gunshot wounds to her head and shoulder and pronounced her dead at the scene. She was 48.

It’s unclear what led to the shooting, but residents say the news is heartbreaking and want accountability.

“It’s sad that we don’t understand conflict resolution,” Sharon Crawford said. “Why do everybody feel like they can’t take loss? Whatever someone has done to you, that’s a learning lesson to move forward and not be caught up in the situation again. We don’t have to kill anyone to solve anything. We walk away.”

The neighborhood’s business owners expressed their sadness over the news, saying it is typically a peaceful and quiet area.

“Nobody deserves to die that way—to be killed. Whatever happened, it’s not worth it to lose a life that way,” Mohammed Alasaey said.
