ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A St. Louis County man has been charged with allegedly pointing a gun at the mother of his child and others last fall because nobody was celebrating his birthday.

According to the Northwoods Police Department’s probable cause statement, the incident occurred on Oct. 25, 2023. Police responded to a report of shots fired inside a residence.

Police claim Carlos D. Johnson Jr., 28, was angry that day because it was his birthday and no one was celebrating. Johnson, who was said to be intoxicated, poured a bottle of cooking oil on the mother of their child and a fight ensued.

During the fracas, Johnson took out a gun and shot at the mother, but missed. He then tried to take his child, who just had surgery, with him. Others at the house tried to stop Johnson, but he continued yelling at the victim.

On Feb. 20, 2024, police claim Johnson went back to the mother’s home and tried to enter, even though he was not allowed to be there. The mother was at home with a relative; they tried to keep Johnson out and called 911.

Johnson eventually forced his way into the residence, pulled a gun on the occupants, and threatened to kill them. Johnson eventually fled when he heard police sirens.

Police eventually took Johnson into custody and found him in possession of a 9mm Beretta with an extended clip.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Johnson with first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action, first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, first-degree burglary, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm.
