ST. LOUIS — Tornado sirens are sounding in parts of the St. Louis area. A tornado warning has been issued for St. Louis, St. Charles, Madison, Jersey, Macoupin, and Calhoun counties until just after 8:00 a.m. The National Weather Service says that you should take shelter if you are in the warned area. The severe weather is coming during rush hour in St. Louis. FOX 2 is tracking several delays along area highways. Check our live traffic map to see if your route is impacted.

This morning’s storms are moving very fast, at around 55 mph. The first tornado warning was issued for the St. Louis area at around 7:30 a.m. The first round of weather is expected to move out of the area after 8:30 a.m.

While models show the atmosphere stabilizing behind these storms by late morning, the instability looks to come back in full force this afternoon. We’ll also have leftover outflow boundaries from this morning’s convection, which could further enhance our chances for severe weather.

Storms look to redevelop mid to late afternoon and continue through the evening hours. All modes of severe weather will be possible. Storms look to exit the region by midnight, with maybe just a few lingering sprinkles.

Behind this dynamic system, we will be back to dry and much cooler on Friday. Highs won’t make it out of the 50s and we’ll see lingering cloud cover for much of the day. Saturday will be sunny and milder, with highs in the mid-60s.

Another cold front comes through later Saturday and cools us down again for St. Patrick’s Day (Sunday). Skies should stay mostly sunny but highs will be in the mid 50s.
