ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis man faces a litany of charges for allegedly stealing his ex-girlfriend’s cellphone, car, and dog last month.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, the incident took place in the 3600 block of North 19th Street, in the Hyde Park neighborhood.

Police claim the victim’s ex, identified as Ralph E. Flakes, 64, came to her home, stole her phone, a dog, and her Toyota Camry. Flakes also slashed the tires on the woman’s Honda CR-V.

On March 12, a license plate reader alerted police that the stolen vehicle was at 14th and Spruce streets. Police conducted a traffic stop and questioned Flakes.

Police claim Flakes said the dog belonged to him but admitted to taking the victim’s car and phone and slashing her tires.

While searching the stolen Camry, police found a loaded .22 caliber revolver under the driver’s seat. Police found more than 20 milligrams of fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine base in Flakes’ possession.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Flakes with stealing a motor vehicle, second-degree property damage, stealing an animal, stealing, unlawful possession of a firearm, first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, second-degree trafficking drugs, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and unlawful use of a weapon. Flakes will remain in custody without bond.
