ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A Florissant father is facing charges for using his young son to help him take advantage of people’s kindness and scam them out of money.

According to the Florissant Police Department’s probable cause statement, the incidents occurred in late August and late September.

In each instance, the victims told police that a young person approached them and asked to use their phones so he could call his father.

After the young man returned the cellphones, the victims later discovered he’d gone into their PayPal, CashApp, or Venmo accounts and sent money to his father’s online payment accounts.

Investigators determined the scheme cost victims a total of $5,870 in four reported incidents.

Police eventually identified the juvenile’s father as Dwayne Furlow and took him into custody on March 1.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Furlow with two counts of stealing – $750 or more (felony) and two counts of stealing (misdemeanor). He was jailed on a $250,000 cash-only bond. Furlow is due in court next week for a hearing.
