U.K. – One thing about the internet is that every move by a celebrity is being watched. And that is certainly the case for the Royal Family “across the pond.”
Users on social media have collectively been vocalizing their concern for the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, after she has not been seen in public since Christmas Day.
Kensington Palace released a statement almost a month after her last appearance, stating the princess “was admitted to the hospital for planned abdominal surgery…she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”
It was also mentioned in the statement that she wished for her medical information to remain private and that updates would only be given if it were significant.
According to People, a close source to the family had no knowledge of anything wrong prior to Middleton’s surgery.
The internet took the information and ran with it, as the statement was released over a month ago and the only update given said she had returned home from the hospital. Users have created memes, voiced what they think happened, and even started the hashtag “#WhereIsKate” on X.
Also in the statement, it was said the princess would have to “postpone her prior upcoming engagements.” One of the most common questions the public has had is: if the surgery was planned, why were there appearances scheduled during her recovery time?

The public has also noted that the announcement of a procedure for King Charles’ came a week in advance of his scheduled hospital visit, just hours after Princess Kate’s statement. While it is surprising both were announced so close together, the public has taken into account that the statement for Princess Kate wasn’t publicized until after her surgery was already over.
While King Charles has been spotted back in the eye of the public and on social media, Kate has yet to be seen in 66 days.
Prince William was supposed to attend a funeral Tuesday for his godfather, King II Constantine of Greece, but backed out at the last minute due to a “personal matter.” And it was expressed that the cancellation was not due to King Charles, according to CNN.
As the public has made connections to all of this, the Royal Family has taken notice of all the theories and comments.
According to Town & Country, a spokesperson for the Princess of Wales said, “Kensington Palace made it clear in January the timelines of the Princess’ recovery and we’d only be providing significant updates. That guidance stands.”
While social media continues to question the details of the whereabouts of the princess, she is expected to return to her normal duties on Easter, which is March 31 this year.
