ST. LOUIS – On this last day of Black History Month, one of our very own at FOX 2 is a part of our living history, serving the St. Louis community for 45 years now.

Who would have thought a young man growing up in the Pruitt-Igoo projects – who started out selling newspaper advertising – would go on to become a fixture and true agent of change in the city that raised him? I’m talking about none other than our fearless justice-seeking investigative journalist, Elliot Davis.

If you at least tune in now and then, you’ve seen him take on big names, from mayors to governors to presidents, in the name of true journalism. Elliot attended Vashon High School and came to FOX 2 in May 1979. While here, he’s been more than a pretty face on camera, but a champion of the underdog.

Examples of his accomplishments include igniting a St. Louis city government plan to tear down unsafe buildings where children in the neighborhood were playing and exposing countless officials to misspending your tax dollars. His more than four decades of work have earned him several Emmy awards and multiple St. Louis Black Journalism Awards for best television series.

He’s not into this for awards, though, and that is evident. You can find him in the streets supporting the homeless and even mentoring us – the younger journalists coming up behind him. We give Elliot Davis his flowers today for being a passionate journalist with an unmatched work ethic and a true love for serving his community.
