ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department says it destroyed hundreds of officer-seized weapons over the weekend.
SLMPD shared a photo Monday via X (formerly Twitter) of guns stacked up into a bin, presumably to destroy and dispose.
“These weapons will never again fall into the wrong hands and be used to commit crimes against anyone in the City of St. Louis,” said the department via Twitter.
Police did not disclose the exact nature of how these guns were seized.
This follows a push for stronger gun legislation in St. Louis last year. One bill that made rounds within the St. Louis Board of Aldermen called to prohibit the open carrying of weapons within the City of St. Louis. One bill later taking effect as a law only allowed people to openly carry guns in the city if they had a concealed carry permit.
Some St. Louis officials have also pushed to prohibit military-grade weapons on city streets and prevent the transfer or sale of guns to minors, though such efforts have come with political pushback from Missouri Republican state leaders like Attorney General Andrew Bailey and Gov. Mike Parson.
