ST. LOUIS – You don’t see the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras fall on the same weekend very often, but people in Soulard are always ready for a party.
As the clean-up on the streets continues, employees at Broadway Oyster Bar were hard at work early Sunday morning, preparing for another day of non-stop partying and lots of customers.
“We are a New Orleans kind of themed bar to begin with, so we were busy from the get-go,” Mike Channell, manager at Broadway Oyster Bar, said. “We kind of encompass Mardi Gras every day of the year.”
They opened at 8 a.m. on Saturday and were packed until closing time.
“Once the parade started at 11, we still kept going,” Channell said. “We had visitors all day long. We were busy.”
Channell and his crew had a quick turnaround for Super Bowl Sunday.
“We kept on top of things,” he said. “We have a great staff here. Everyone was on top of everything. We kind of kept it clean as we went just to make sure everyone had a nice experience throughout the day.”
While apparently everyone but a delivery driver were still asleep in Soulard Sunday morning, there was still a lot of trash, drinks, and beads left behind from the night before outside.”
“Pick your trash up and throw it away. There’s trash cans everywhere,” Nicholas Williams said.
He said he plans to grill out with his family and watch the game, but if you’re not wanting to hang out at home, Broadway Oyster Bar says they are open until 1 a.m.
“We’ll keep it rolling as long as people are coming in,” Channell said.
