ALTON, Ill. – Amtrak officials say a mechanical issue Friday morning has caused delays for a train near Alton. The train’s planned route is from St. Louis to Chicago.

Amtrak says all passengers on the train will be loaded onto a bus to reach their intended destination of Chicago.

Amtrak reports reviewed by FOX 2 show two service disruptions as of 7 a.m. Friday. Some viewers tell FOX 2 that one train has been stopped for hours.

Another train is heading to the station in Alton to help one that has been stuck and move train cars out of the blocked path, to whatever extent is possible.

Amtrak officials say the train originally departed San Antonio on Thursday and cite “rail congestion on the tracks ahead resulting from an unforeseen track inspection.”

No injuries have been reported from this situation. SkyFOX, powered by Bommarito Automotive Group, flew over the scene of the impacted trains earlier on Friday.

This is a developing story. FOX 2 will update as more information becomes available.
