ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office has filed charges in connection with a pair of business burglaries along a popular south city strip known for its eclectic restaurants and shops.

The burglaries occurred on Aug. 20 and Aug. 24, 2023, in the 3100 block of South Grand Boulevard, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement.

Police claim David Hammond, 66, threw a rock through the glass door of one business after it was closed and stole a cash register. Hammond did the same thing days later at a different business.

Both cash registers are valued at over $750 apiece. Damage to each glass door is in excess of $750.

Hammond was eventually arrested and charged. According to the police, Hammond has an extensive history of arrests and convictions dating back to 1974.

Prosecutors charged Hammond with two counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of first-degree property damage, and two counts of stealing – $750 or more. He remains jailed without bond.
