ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis man was sentenced Friday to life in prison plus 10 years for raping a child and later pressuring her into renouncing the accusations.

42-year-old Litel Gilmore was found guilty on two counts of first-degree statutory rape, three counts of statutory sodomy and tampering with a witness in a felony prosecution, according to officials.

Gilmore was convicted of raping a girl multiple times in 2015 and 2016, forcing sexual intercourse.

A month before his trial date scheduled for December 2022, Gilmore and another individual paid the girl and provided drugs. This was done in an attempt to have the victim retract her allegations, the charges said. He also messaged her with word-by-word statements to provide in denying the rapes.

The girl took screenshots of the messages and sent them to investigators. Gilmore insisted he was innocent, saying the girl lied under oath. A release states that he also filed paperwork indicating an intent to appeal.

A judge sentenced Gilmore to five life prison terms plus 10 additional years. Each term is calculated at 30 years and is ordered to run concurrently. The additional 10 years come from tampering with a witness.
