18-year-old charged for Metrolink station homicide

ST. LOUIS – An 18-year-old woman has been charged with first-degree murder following a shooting at a Metrolink platform in May.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police, Karina Whitfield was 17 at the time of her arrest for shooting a woman at 250 DeBaliviere in the city’s DeBaliviere Place neighborhood on May 11.

Police said they found the victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest at the Metrolink station. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where she was listed in unstable condition and later pronounced dead.

Whitfield was caught on Metro’s surveillance system as the suspect and taken into custody on May 12. She was held at a juvenile detention facility in St. Louis County.

According to SLMPD, Whitfield has now been certified as an adult as of Monday, and the Circuit Attorney’s Office has charged her for first-degree murder and armed criminal action.
