ST. LOUIS – Two teenagers escaped the St. Louis Juvenile Detention Center on July 4. One is back in custody but the other is still at large.
According to Sgt. Charles Wall, a spokesman for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the two boys, ages 16 and 15, absconded from the detention center, located in the St. Louis City Family Court building, around 2:10 p.m. Thursday.
Detention center staff went after the teens and arrested the 15-year-old shortly after the escape. Staff pursued the other teen in the neighborhood but he eluded capture.

The 15-year-old was certified as an adult in February to stand trial on two counts of first-degree robbery, two counts of armed criminal action, and one count of possession of a controlled substance. He’s due back in court on July 25.
Meanwhile, the 16-year-old has not been certified as an adult. He has pending charges in juvenile court of of first-degree burglary, first-degree tampering, and resisting/interfering with arrest.
A spokesman for the St. Louis Circuit Courts said the victims in both cases were notified of the escape.
